Senior Spotlight - Kathryn Tam

My name is Kathryn Tam, and this year is my final season with MYB. I joined the Makaroff Ballet School when I was 14, and I still remember my first class like it was yesterday. I remember being in awe of how dedicated each student was, especially the members of the Makaroff Youth Ballet Company. Moving to this brand new school, I knew almost nothing about classical ballet, so never in my wildest dreams did I think that I would be dancing in the Company before high school graduation. I think this really says something about how much care and effort Ms. Makaroff truly puts into teaching each individual student. I am so grateful for her support these past four years. I also have to thank my lucky stars that someone with her extensive training and professional experience decided to teach in a small town in Wisconsin.

I know for certain that being a part of MYB has shaped me into the person that I am today. I guess you could say that my joining the Makaroff Ballet School is analogous to a turning point in a really good book. You don’t know exactly what will happen, but you do know something amazing will come out of it. Ballet has made me a stronger, harder-working, and more determined person than I ever thought I could be. Not only has ballet completely changed my life, but the sense of camaraderie within the company has given me a second family where I have met some of my best friends. I have cherished the memories of MYB these past four years, and I wouldn’t trade it for the world.
